If you want unbelievably beautiful scenery, family friendly outdoor day trips, or simply experience some of the most unmissable events this summer, then look no further than the city of Edinburgh. It has it all after all. From internationally famous events to days out for all the family, not to mention picturesque seasides. Edinburgh is a fantastic place to visit at any time of year, but especially during the summer months. This guide will take you through some of the key events happening this summer:
Edinburgh Food Festival
This celebrates what it is to be Scottish, and includes examples of some of the best food and drink in the country. Held in George Square Gardens, which is part of Edinburgh University’s grounds, you can be sure that this is a great event that you will enjoy immensely. The event runs from 26-30th July, so if you are planning to visit the city around this time, then this would be a great thing to go and see.
Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Jacobites
If you enjoy learning about Scottish history, then the National Museum of Scotland has just the thing for you this summer. This is an impressive new exhibition that you are invited to visit, and it runs right through the summer all the way up to November 12th. This exhibit tells the story of Prince Charles Edward Stuart, and takes you right through the history of the Stuarts, like you have never seen it before.
Great Grog Bottled Beer Fair
This is one for the adults, and takes place at St. Peter’s Church on September 30th. This gives you the chance to try out more than 90 different beers from around the country, all of which are made locally. There is also plenty of fantastic food available, meaning that your taste buds will be tingling all day long.
No trip to Edinburgh would be complete without allowing yourself to enjoy some of the music that is on offer, so if this is something that you are interested in, then Frankie Cosmos on August 3rd at Le Belle Angèle is well worth a visit. Allow yourself to be immersed into the music, and enjoy your evening.
If you enjoy comedy and theatre, then this is the perfect show for you. Telling the story of a couple’s engagement all the way through to the wedding day, there are moments that most couples will relate to, along with plenty of laughs along the way, too. The play is on at Mayfield Salisbury in August, and is definitely worth booking tickets for if you are a lover of theatre.
No matter what you enjoy doing, there is no doubt that Edinburgh is the best place to visit. With so many different options available, it really is a great place to be this summer – so enjoy your trip, and make lots of happy memories.
