St Andrew’s Night Dinner

24/11/2017 7.00 for 7.30 pm

We are delighted to announce that the speaker for our St Andrew’s Night Dinner has been confirmed, and we will be welcoming fellow Club member Reverend Iain May. Join us in November to hear Iain’s facinating story from high flying banker to minister and director of a “social justice mission”.

Rev May is a former naval officer, and served in both the Royal Navy and the Merchant Navy as a navigating Officer. He then joined Royal Bank of Scotland as a marketing manager for its credit-card business in the early 1990s, just as the bank embarked on its transformation from a venerable Edinburgh institution into a leading global player. After leaving RBS, Iain moved to Dublin to work for Allied Irish Banks, which, like RBS, was later bailed out after the bursting of the credit bubble it had helped to inflate. But by this time, Iain had begun to turn his back on the industry. As the banks hurtled towards crisis point in 2007, Iain began training for the ministry and by 2012 payday lending was booming. He quickly saw how many people were relying on the quick fix of a payday loan and the need for more preventative action was clear. As a result, Castle Community Bank was formed last year to provide the community with an affordable alternative. Quite a career turnaround!

This is one of the Club’s most popular events so we advise booking early. A very special black tie evening which includes a wonderful 3 course dinner and a whole evening’s entertainment. Great value for £40 per person.
