Spending your Easter in Edinburgh gives you plenty of opportunity to explore the city but you can also get involved with some wonderful Easter themed events, with something for visitors (and locals) of all ages. Here we’re looking at some of the most exciting Easter events in Edinburgh this year.
The Botanics Bunny and the Hunt for the Golden Egg
Taking centre stage at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh is a huge Easter egg hunt. The Botanics Bunny is on the lookout for the golden egg and for just £1 per trail you can join the hunt and see if you spot the egg too. The event is also an opportunity to explore a full trail around the huge Botanic Gardens. This fun trail can be enjoyed between 24th March and 3rd April.
Meet the Cast at Edinburgh Castle
This Easter is your opportunity to discover what life in Edinburgh Castle was really like, through the eyes of the cast who occupy the halls, courtyards and beyond. As you tour the castle you will have the chance to relive some of the castle’s most famous events and listen to the stories of famous figures from the past brought colourfully to life. An Easter quiz is included too and there’s a jester ensuring everyone of all ages is entertained throughout. This event is taking place on 26th and 27th March and is included in the regular Edinburgh Castle Admission.
Easter Enrichment Experience at Edinburgh Zoo
On 26th March a visit to Edinburgh Zoo will give you the opportunity to enjoy a wonderful enrichment experience, where you will see the animals receiving Easter-themed enrichment designed to stimulate their natural behaviours and habitat. The event also includes a session where you help to make the enrichment, including themed items for the animals and then you can watch as the zookeepers give your specially made items to the animals including the meerkat, chimps, vultures, watery pigs and sun bears.
Easter at the Palace
Events at Holyroodhouse Palace are taking all things Easter to a very regal level. Between 26th March and 10th April there are Easter egg hunts planned but they’re a little different to your average hunt. Instead of chocolate or painted eggs, you’re on the hunt for magnificently decorated Faberge eggs around the palace, completing puzzles as you go and there is also the chance to create your own palace jigsaw in the family room of the palace.
Easter Gin Tasting
This is an event just for adult visitors and is running on both 25th and 26th March, with a £31 per person fee each time. These fantastic Easter Gin Tastings take place aboard a vessel on the Union Cana with Juniper Cruises. Each two-hour session involves many flavourful and aromatic gins matched with tasty bits to eat.
There are events running across from Good Friday onwards into April to celebrate Easter making it a wonderful time to pay Edinburgh a visit.
