How to have the best Edinburgh Fringe ever!

28/04/2017

Edinburgh- The best Festival Destination

Edinburgh is the world’s leading festival city, full of culture, traditions and entertainment making it clear why there is 4.5 million attendees coming from across the world to visit our great city. Scotland’s capital offers something for everyone, whether you are looking for traditional Scottish cuisine to castle tours, or just looking to experience the hustle and bustle of the royal mile during the festival period, Edinburgh really does have it all.

Choosing your Fringe Festival Shows

With Edinburgh hosting 3,000 events and 25,000 performers it is easy to get confused and frustrated trying to find the right show or performance to attend. Forward planning is key to make sure you make the most of your trip, narrowing it down to what types of performances would interest you first is key. It is also worth downloading the fringe app as this will keep you updated while here. Remember you are here to enjoy the festival, so try not to become overwhelmed by the amount of flyers and left-lets you are handed when walking down the street, the box offices are very informative for show information and will be able to advise accordingly.

Choosing your accommodation

Choosing your accommodation in Edinburgh at any time of year can be tricky but over the Fringe festival period this becomes close to impossible if left to late.

Key things to think about when looking to visit Edinburgh over the fringe are; too book as far in advance as possible, it is best to book as soon as you know you are travelling to Edinburgh as you are more likely to get the best value for money and more importantly be in your desired location. Don’t forget to do your research, if you have a plan of what activities you are interested in then make sure your accommodation is close, walking the streets of Edinburgh all day can become tiring. Finally choose accommodation that is going to suit your style of trip, are you looking to fully embrace a Scottish style hotel or would you prefer something a little more modern? Do you want gym/spa facilities or would you just like something simple as you don’t plan to spend much time in your room, all these things need to be taken into consideration to make your trip perfect!

Making the most of your experience

To maximise your time while in Ednburgh you want to make sure you are efficient in choosing which activities suit you and your group. Think about how you want to move around Edinburgh, it might be worth downloading the Lothian bus & tram timetables. Look at TripAdvisor for where the best eateries, bars and cafes are to stop at while you tour around the city, these can sometimes be the best parts of your trip, tasting the food and drink Edinburgh has to offer. Finally enjoy yourself, Edinburgh can seem overwhelming in these busier times but that is only because it has so much to offer so make sure you make the most of it.
