Another fabulous write up from The Aberdeen Press & Journal

26/10/2011

A recent article from the P&J was published and can be found online here.

I had fabns.

Even pulling a suitcase, it is not too far a walk frulous accommodation at the Royal Scots Club in Abercromby Place.

Housed in a stunning Georgian building in Edinburgh’s New Town, now one of UNESCO’s designated World Heritage sites, it overlooks Queen Street Gardeom the train and bus stations.

It is a private members’ club but offers high quality, reasonably priced accommodation and meals to members and non-members alike.

It was founded as a memorial club to more than 11,000 Royal Scots who lost their lives in the Great War.

The walls in the public rooms are adorned with references to the regiment and those who served – one fascinating photograph of sturdy lads has the caption: 17th Battalion Royal Scots tug of war team winners, divisional championship, Flanders 1919.

The faces staring out from the photograph serve as a sharp reminder of those who endured so much on those muddy, bloody battlefields.

Designed as an oasis of calm for men of all ranks, the club still has a quiet, upmarket air and, apart from a no jeans at dinner rule, is pretty relaxed.
