2013 Winter Lectures: War Graves, Forth Crossing and Propaganda

03/01/2013

3rd January 2013

With continued focus on the role of the military around the world, we have launched our 2013 programme of free winter lectures.

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission has a unique worldwide role and cares for cemeteries which are the final resting place of millions of servicemen killed in battle. The first lecture of the year will kick-off with a talk that links Edinburgh to worldwide war graves, plus some fascinating revelations about their history and upkeep.

Speaking about the lecture, Lt Gen Sir Alistair Irwin KCB, CBE comments: “In WW1 and WW2 there were 1.7 million Commonwealth casualties including over 12,000 Royal Scots. The information held by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission is of great value to anyone researching history of battles or a personal family history.”

This popular lecture series will continue into the year with an overview of the new Forth Crossing and a historic talk on the Propaganda in the Films of the Third Reich – including an eye-opening German version of the Titanic.

Lectures are free and open to non-members. Box office: 0131 556 4270 / events@royalscotsclub.com
